ORIGIN

Origin Between 2014 nd 2017, a network of 17 partners from 8 European countries, with the collaboration of several other global and national institutions from Europe, South America, Africa and Asia, undertook the project “Apheleia – Cultural Integrated Landscape Management”, based on a strategic partnership led by universities, with research centres, local authorities, enterprises and NGOs. This project was endorsed by the International Council for the Philosphy and Human sciences (CIPSH) and the International Year of Global Understanding (IYGU), also having established a collaboration with UNESCO’s programme MOST (Management of Social Transformations) from 2016. Its core partnership was built from continuous collaboration in several converging projects, including research, education and dissemination, for over 20 years (e.g. International Masters and PhD programmes, major Humanities driven landscape management projects, IYGU, etc. – and it is now proposing a UNESCO chair application).Given the very significant impact of the project and the long-lasting collaboration, its academic partners decided to constitute a new European Research Association, which became affiliated to CIPSH since early 2017, under the name “APHELEIA – Humanities European Association For Cultural Integrated Landscape Management”.
